How to Spend 48 Hours in Sugar Land: Parks, Trails, and Global Cuisine

Categories: Itinerary Ideas Outdoors Hotels & Staycations

If you’re craving a weekend filled with peaceful trails, outdoor fun and some seriously good food, put Sugar Land, Texas on your list, located just 22 miles southwest of Houston. Here’s how to spend a beautiful weekend exploring Sugar Land.

Wednesday

Start your fun filled weekend by checking in to Hyatt Place Sugar Land, the perfect home base. Hyatt Place sits right on Brooks Lake so I had beautiful waterfront views and access to walking trails. A quick walk over a bridge leads you to the shops and restaurants of Lake Pointe Town Center.

Dinner at Talyard Brewing Co., a laid-back brewery with a backyard feel, is a must have! There was live music, plenty of space to chill inside and outside, a playground and even pickleball courts. I ate The Fun-Ghi pizza and it was delicious!

Waterfront views of Brooks Lake, Cullinan Park and Talyard Brewery Co.

Thursday

I started my first full day with breakfast at Live Oak Grill, a local favorite serving country-style comfort food. Their pancakes were everything!

Hiking at Cullinan Park Conservancy was one of my favorite moments of the trip. Cullinan Park is a hidden nature gem - with lakes, birdwatching and scenic trails. Cullinan Park is nestled just off Highway 6 and it’s the perfect place to enjoy nature. This park features more than four miles of paved and unpaved trails including a boardwalk, scenic overlook and an observation tower. I saw so many birds here and even hiked to the 23rd largest pecan tree in Texas. Hiking here felt like a breath of fresh air and it was so peaceful. Whether you are into birdwatching or just want a quiet walk surrounded by trees you have to visit this park.

After a morning of hiking, go to Poke & Juice Time for a re-charge. Poke & Juice Time offers fresh smoothies, shaved ice, crepes and poke bowls.

Spend the afternoon on a light hike or walk at Oyster Creek Park. Oyster Creek Park offers a three-mile hike and bike trail, a water feature with rock lined falls and a pond. I really enjoyed walking and running here and even got to see some turtles on my run.

After a long day of exploring, grab a delicious dinner at Bundu Khan Kabab House, a family-owned business that serves authentic Pakistani BBQ.

Cozy Day 6 Coffee, SLTX sign at Sugar land Town Square, Go Ape Zipline Park and Pakistani BBQ at Bundu Khan.

Friday

Gear up for another day full of adventure with breakfast at the hotel or grab a coffee from Day 6 Coffee Co. This cozy coffee shop has a variety of delicious lattes and assorted breakfast items.

Spent the morning tackling an outdoor challenge at Go Ape Zipline and Adventure Park in Sugar Land. Go Ape Sugar Land offers ropes and zipline courses, dangling obstacles, and giant Tarzan Swings. Go Ape Sugar Land has the longest ziplines in the Houston region, up to 1000 feet long above the Brazos River. This was my first time ziplining and I had a blast. The courses provided a great challenge and I can’t wait to come back here again.

After tackling the courses head to Jupiter Pizza and Waffle Co. located in Sugar Land Town Square. This family-friendly restaurant offers stone-baked pizzas as well as sweet and savory Belgian waffles. I ordered the Southern Belle, a crispy fried chicken served over a Belgian waffle and it was so delicious!

Sugar Land Town Square is the heart of the city and has multiple dining and shopping opportunities. I walked around and of course snapped a photo at the SLTX sign in the plaza.

To walk off lunch, I went to Sugar Land Memorial Park. Sugar Land Memorial Park is located along the Brazos River. This park is massive – with 2.5 miles of trails, kayak rentals, a Veteran’s Memorial and a rose garden. I really loved the trails and was motivated to go for a quick run. Sugar Land has so much wildlife and I even got to spot an egret in the water.

I had dinner at Pacific Coast Tacos and it was delicious. This place offers globally inspired taco flavors like Korean BBQ, Baja fish and more. I ate the Korean Beef Taco and the Nashville Hot Chicken Tacos and they’re both so good.

Pacific Coast Tacos, Sugar Land Memorial Park and Kohiko Coffee House.

Saturday

End the amazing weekend with breakfast at Day 6 Coffee Co. or if you are in the mood for a latte head to Kohiko Coffee House. This unique-to-Sugar land coffee shop serves delicious matcha, authentic Japanese drinks, coffee and croissants.

Sugar Land delivered the perfect mix of relaxation, nature, adventure and foodie moments. If you are thinking about a weekend escape, this is your sign to explore Sugar Land. Whether you are here for nature, family fun or just good eats, there is something for everyone!
