Día de los Muertos in Sugar Land: Ofrendas, Celebration and What to Know
Categories: Itinerary Ideas Events Holidays Family Friendly Outdoors
Día de los Muertos offers an opportunity to remember loved ones, learn from local families and experience traditions that remain deeply meaningful across generations. This October, visitors can experience the celebration in two Sugar Land locations through a community-created ofrendas exhibit and an afternoon gathering filled with music, dance, history and family activities.
Whether you are familiar with Día de los Muertos or experiencing it for the first time, here is what to know before planning your visit.

Begin With the Ofrendas Exhibit
The Sugar Land Heritage Museum and Visitor Center will host its 2026 Hispanic Heritage and Día de los Muertos Exhibit from October 12 through November 1.
Created with participation from local families, the exhibit features ofrendas honoring ancestors who lived in Sugar Land and contributed to the city’s development. The personal objects, photographs and remembrances included in the altars help connect Sugar Land’s history to the people and families who shaped it.
The exhibit also commemorates the 127th anniversary of Hispanic heritage in Sugar Land.

Make a Day of Your Visit
The museum exhibit and Town Square celebration can become the centerpiece of a full day in Sugar Land.
Begin at the Heritage Museum to experience the ofrendas and learn about the local families represented. Then continue to Town Square for performances, activities and the larger community celebration.
When you are ready for a meal, explore Sugar Land’s global dining scene. Town Square restaurants offer options for lunch, dinner or dessert before or after the celebration. Outside food and beverages are discouraged at the event, and coolers are not permitted.
Visitors age 21 and older can also enjoy Sugar Land Town Square’s Social District by purchasing a beverage from a participating business and enjoying it within the designated area. Review current Social District guidelines before participating.
If you are traveling from outside the area, consider staying overnight and using the celebration as the starting point for a Sugar Land weekend. Browse Sugar Land hotels to find accommodations near the city’s restaurants, shopping, attractions and cultural experiences.
A Celebration Rooted in Sugar Land

Día de los Muertos brings history, family and community together in a way that feels personal to Sugar Land. The ofrendas offer a quieter opportunity to learn about the people who came before us, while the Town Square celebration brings those traditions into a lively public gathering.
Come ready to listen, learn and celebrate with the families and community members who continue to share these traditions.
